2009 I went to Chicago, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, and Thailand. Woohoo!
In 2010 I will hit NYC and Japan...who knows where else, I have only planned through April!
Favorites: I loved Nusa Dua beach in Bali, and Hoi An in Vietnam.
2009 was a great travel year for me! It started in January, when I headed to our nation's capitol to witness the historic inaguration of President Barack Obama. It must have been 10 degrees outside that day, but being in the midst of so many energetic and excited people was truly a once in a lifetime experience. After starting a new job in June, I decided I deserved a little getaway, so I headed to Miami in early August. It was such a perfect 5-day weekend! I went clubbing at Liv at Fontainebleau, the 18,000 sq foot megaclub on South Beach, and of course, spent the next morning recuperating on the Miami shore. Each October, going back to homecoming at my alma mater, Howard University, is an annual treat for me, and this year did not disappoint. Although the rain put a damper on a few of the activities on the Yard, it was great bonding with my old classmates, sorority sisters and cruising on the Spirit of Washington for the HU Homecoming Yacht Party. In November, me and my honey flew out to Sin City to attend the Pacquiao vs Cotto “Firepower” fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was pure madness! Fight fans are truly off the chain! During our stay in Vegas, we partied at the Encore’s new nightlife sensation, club XS. The club surrounds the Encore’s outdoor pool, providing an extravagant ambiance like none other. Lastly, being the family girl that I am, I had to head home to the Motor City for the holidays. Being in Detroit is always a great way to end out the year for me, because truly, there’s no place like home. In 2010, I have another trip to Vegas planned in March, a trip to Miami lined up for a wedding in April, and hopefully I will be able to squeeze in some international travel as well.
My favorite 2009 destinations were Mexico City, Mexico...to climb both the Moon and Sun pyramids, oh my! And Havana. Yup, Havana.
2010 I am traveling to Buenos Aires, Salvador da Bahia, Capetown, Tokyo, Beijing and Costa Rica, among others.
Bring it on!
2009 was an amazing travel year for me! As i neared the close of the year, i began to realize how many stamps i'd collected this year alone. I'd defintely gone to various places within the US to visit friends and family, Chicago (my hometown) - DC (mentor and great friend's 40th Birthday) - Atlantic City (more girlfriend's bday excursions) - and begrudgingly to Vegas for a work related over-nighter (thank you to the slot machine that paid off!)...
However the real travel kick-off was my Mentor and male BFF's Spring Wedding in Costa Rica. He and the groomsmen looked cool, and the bride was absolutely STUNNING! Not a surprise :-) Although this was my second time visiting the country, it took on a different tone for such a monumental event in my friend's life.
Later that year, I was able to go to Paris to visit another good friend. Thanks to him lending his brother's apartment to me for the weekend, I was able to make my 4 day weekend the best whirlwind trip to the City of Lights ever! It was my first time going, and definitely fulfillment of a dream (more on dream fulfillment later hint hint). I was up bright and early each day exploring and taking it all in... and shopping it all in. My stroll down the Champs Elysee coupled with a La Duree and Louis Vuitton visit... let's just say Thank God for bills that were paid BEFORE I left the states! Oh how I wish I could be paid in Euros!!!
My final trip of the year was not the grandest one of them all (I'm saving that to the end) it was a quick trip to Aguadilla/Rincon Puerto Rico to meet some friends who'd rented a house their for the holidays. I originally thought that I would be able to come because I was taking a holiday trip that wouldn't end until the 26th. When I found out they'd be their to celebrate NYE, I just new I had to join. What a way to beat the cold in NYC!
My other "Living the Dream" experience came when I visited Egypt this year for a 'King Tut Christmas.' It was absolutely amazing. I've been non-stop since I've been there, so I'm still kind of processing the trip in my head. I have so many pictures, it is still hard to believe that it really happened. We visited all the wonders of Egypt, sailed the Nile, made some new friends, and of course shopped in the various souks and bazaars. My 9-year old niece was so anxious for the trip you would have thought she was going. I can't want to put her show and tell kit together for her with the gifts that I brought back for her. This was a trip I'd wanted to since I was in my teens. I was great to finally have been able to do it!
I only have a vague idea of what 2010 holds... I would definitely like to do Paris again for longer, thinking of South Africa for World Cup (gotta make a decision quick on that one), Snowboarding/Skiing with pals in Feb, Istanbul in the fall, and maybe Amsterdamn in the Spring. And of course a few visits home for good measure - look out Chicago!!! ;-)
I'm not sure if I'm subscribed... looking for it. in the meantime dnlewis[at]gmail[dot]com
